Spot The Duffer

To make a custom text formatter with WPF you have to implement a TextSource class. There are just three methods to override:

  • GetTextRun
  • GetPrecedingText
  • GetTextEffectCharacterIndexFromTextSourceCharacterIndex (hmmm…)

Smalltalk Book

It looks like the ‘Smalltalk by Example’ book would be a good way to learn Smalltalk. I downloaded Squeak again, it’s had a bit of a makeover since the last time I used it. I really spend too much time looking at languages these days – if only real languages were as easy to pick up.

Not That Hard

Hard to pronounce

  • LaTeX (the typesetting system) – not how you’d expect
  • Autechre (the experimental electronic outfit) – there’s a trick to it
  • Anything eastern European (hard to get past the consonants)

Easy to pronounce

  • C++ – pronounced see plus plus, not “c double plus”. It’s really not that hard.

Return To Zero

The spam situation has improved – emails to my inbox are way down. Sense of loneliness slightly up.

I’ve just uploaded my nullarbor entry Return to zero to the site. A proper description page may follow one day. The original concept was quite different, but time pressures led to it becoming more like a Llamatron / Echoes knock-off. It also got finished, in a sense. The upside is that most of the code that came out of it should be reusable for another project, one hopefully more like the original idea.

Start Again

After a year of no updates my inbox is overflowing with comment spam. Seems like a good time to get rid of the old stuff and start a new blahhg.
